If you are like me you have a dresser drawer full of those irresistible 5" squares. Today as I was cruising block central over my morning cuppa, I found an old favorite. It is called puss in the corner and consists of four cornerstones, four strips around a central square. Here is how to make one out of five inch squares. Pick four 5" squares. Two should be very similar in color. One should be a contrast to those two and one should be a "center" or dominant square. Leave this last one alone. Cut the two similar colored squares each into two strips 5"x2.5". Cut the contrast square into four 2.5" units. Sew one unit to the top and bottom of one set of strips. Sew the other set of strips to the center square. You now have three units. Stitch them together. The cornerstone squares are the "puss in the corner". This should make about a 6"finished block. Sewn edge to edge they form a great all over mosaic pattern, alternating with plain blocks they form a very traditional looking quilt. If you just cut and stitched 4 blocks a day, done in less than 30 min, by the end of the month you would have a whole quilt top ready to piece. This looks great in red White and Blue. And it leaves room in the drawer for more great five inch sample pieces....and quilters; there is always more fabric out there to want obsessively:)

Hi kellen 46

Thanks for the pattern. I am always looking for a pattern to use up some of my scraps. Sounds like a good one.
