I am so excited about the fifth season of Project Runway! Despite the fact that more than half the designers used fabric related items (tablecloths) from the grocery, it was still a pretty innovative collection of garments. Just to start on the right foot, I will not talk about who won or lost right after the show. I'll save those comments for tomorrow. I don't want any spoilers here. I'll just say this, I cannot believe the one they kept. More later.

Of course, many made the mistake of using tablecloths! What about the guy who made the dress out of blue plastic cups? That was very innovative. What was that black thing with shredded white stuff? Now that should have been the one. It will take me a little while to attach the personalities to the designers. I believe the trench coat made from the shower curtain over a cheesecloth dress was very chic for a shower curtain. If it had a little color to it, I bet it would not have received such a bad rating from the judges. At the end it was Stella and Jerry. I think the black trash bag dress needed to go.

I feel free now to voice my opinion. If you haven't seen the first episode of PR5, don't read the rest of my post! I think the grocery store challenge is one of the toughest, and really lets you see who these designers really are. Should it have been the very first challenge? I am not sure. We probably would have seen a little less tablecloth fabric if this had been later in the show. I have always like Austin Scarlett. I was happy to see him as the first guest judge. Very appropriate since he won that challenge in season one. I am disappointed that Raincoat Guy got Auffed, I think he would have brought a professionalism to the show. He design inspiration seemed to be Japanese in style. I am sorry we won't see that. Garbage Bag Girl will be gone soon. She's so negative, and her mind closed like a steel trap when she realized what she had chosen to work with. I hope I don't have to see those striped tights and hot pants again!

I had to record the first episode of Project Runway and I didnt get a chance to see it until this past weekend. In a promo for season 5 Tim Gunn said that this season was going to have many surprising results and that a lot of people would be upset. Well isnt that the truth! Jerry has a beautiful portfolio and I was so looking forward to seeing his "classy" creations. I dont think his coat and dress were up to his potential but his design was certainly not worthy of being "sent packing". I cant wrap my head around why Blaine and Stella were not left standing in the bottom two. What business did a trash bag with slits and something that looked like a walking femine hygiene product have getting through to the next round? OMG...I hope this season is going to be about talent and not about shock value to pump up ratings. Stay tuned....And can anyone tell me how to make that "mop top"???...Loved it!!!![]() |

I knew that there would be an eco friendly challenge this year because of the major trend in using eco-friendly fabric. I do not think they spent much time telling what is considered eco-friendly. The models were allowed to pick the fabric which was a little unfair to the designers. Of course, many of them did not buy the right amount of yardage! Good thing that they are thin. Woe to the poor designers who got the brown "stuff"
I can't wait for tonight! |

OK. I have recorded the last two challenges. I just finished the eco friendly fabric challenge. I absolutely loved the idea that the ''client'' would pick out and purchase the fabrics. What a challenge for the designers. Since some of them decided to reject some of the fabric (rightfully so in some cases), they were left with precious little to actually constuct the garment from. I love satin dresses. They remind me of those 1930's black & white sirens of the big screen. That being said, I don't want to sew on it, and I absolutely will not wear it (Can we shine a spotlight on every figure flaw, please). But thin girls in well constructed satin garments are Satin Dolls in my opinion. I would have chosen Kenley's dress myself. What do you think?

My all time favorite Project Runway designer is season 3's Laura. Last night the only looks I cared for were Korto, Suede and Leanne. It dawned on me that these design were very "Lauraish" and that may be why I gravitated to these styles. Having said that, I feel like the majority the designers were way off the mark of designing an outfit appropriate for the Olympic opening ceremonies. Being the Olympic geek that I am I was truly disappointed in the designs that looked like souped up flight attendent uniforms. I mean come on...What athelete is going to feel comfortable in that kinda garb?? I think Korto's design was a very understated but sophisticated look that would look perfect marching in a parade. Can't you just see our flag waving in front of that procession? I am really liking Korto and I hope she continues to properly interpret each week's challenge. Team Korto!

Well, this was a fun episode. Pairings can be overly dramatic for me, but these guys worked fairly well together with little drama. I don't watch Lipstick Jungle, so I don't know Brooke's character, Wendy. I understood the day to evening angle, and I'm not sure about a couple of the outfit's going to the office - even an artsy or contemporary office.
As usual, I loved Terry's outfit. Maybe not for the winner, but she definitely did a great job. I wish I was six feet tall to wear it. I also loved Jerell's look. He and Stella worked so nicely together. She's not exactly what I thought she was. Nice surprise. The winner? Meh. Obviously Brooke liked it. That's what counts this time. What did you think? I'd love to hear from some of our readers! |
